November 2012 November Luncheon Len Heckel - QUEST Business Opportunity Manager Quest is a fully integrated Carbon Capture and Storage project that has recently been approved by the Athabasca Oil Sands Project partners. The project is situated near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada and is connected to the Scotford Upgrader which processes the bitumen from the AOSP mining operations in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Quest will capture over 1 million tonnes per year annum of CO2 from the Upgrader, transport it via pipeline and store it in a deep saline aquifer located approximately 80 km north of the Upgrader. The presentation will cover the CCS critical areas of capture technology, subsurface geology and site selection, measurement, monitoring and verification (MMV) plans, regulatory environment, economics and stakeholder engagement. Len is responsible for the Quest Carbon Capture and Storage business opportunity, namely to provide a single-point oversight for the project. Len graduated as a chemical engineer and brings 30 years of experience in oil and gas business, engineering and plant operations, including 10 years at Shell's Scotford complex. For the past 15 years he has been involved in developing and evaluating business opportunities in Shell's refining and upgrading activities. He has spent the last 3 years as the business and commercial manager for the Quest CCS project prior to taking on the Business Opportunity Manager role in 2012. |
