2002 PJVA/PASC Golf Tournament

Neither snow, sleet, nor rain… No, that's for the postman to follow, not golf tournaments!

Wow! We did it again! This time we slipped the golf tournament in between snow and rain. The weather gods were fooled again and the golf tournament was held on a sunny, albeit windy day. We were all able to fake a windburn for a suntan. It was also a great way to explain away that hook or slice.

This year the PJVA Golf Tournament Committee combined with PASC to make for another great golf tournament. Some say it was to hide the fact that it was the "13th" annual tournament.

Around noon on June 6th, 127 energetic golfers descended on the Shaw-Nee Slopes Golf Course for the 2002 PJVA/PASC Golf Tournament. It was a shotgun format, so after a few minutes of milling around shaking hands, practicing putts, and taking that last practice drive, everyone jumped into their golf carts and raced out to their respective holes.

Over five hours later we all met back at the clubhouse and swapped stories about missed putts and balls only the fish and deer will find. This was also a great opportunity for many to renew old friendships and to make new contacts. After a quick drink and a large chicken and beef buffet dinner, it was on to the prizes. Everyone had a great time and, although winning isn't everything, the following teams were happy to walk away with the hardware and the bragging rights for the next twelve months.

Congratulations to the following finishers:

This year's combined organizing committee consisted of Peter Berzins (PASC), Cathy Grant (PJVA), Sharon Hudspeth (PJVA), Kimi Rutz (PJVA), Frank Serpico (PJVA), Janine Tremblay (PASC), and Doug Phillips (PJVA). Their hard work, planning, organizing and begging for prizes helped make this golf tournament a great success.

Everyone walked away with a prize or two, which leads us to thank the many sponsors of the tournament. Without them this event would not be the success it is.

Mark it on your calendar for next year. With history in mind, the only sunny day in early June 2003 will be the day PJVA goes golfing. See you there!

Doug Phillips, on behalf of the 2002 PJVA/PASC Golf Tournament Committee
