President's Message

Storm Purdy

As my tenure as President of PJVA is coming to a close, I can honestly say that it has been one of the best years of my professional/volunteer life.

The support I have received from the many volunteers, board members and association members over the last year has been amazing. Each one has exhibited great passion for the tasks at hand and has approached each task with a great level of professionalism.

PJVA is recognized throughout the industry as one of the premier associations in the oil and gas sector. The success and accomplishments of our task forces over the years has been the foundation that has helped us earn the reputation as a leader in Joint Venture relationships. Time and time again, PJVA has been congratulated by other associations for the great work we do at providing comprehensive model agreements, well-run seminars and courses, and exciting social events, allowing excellent opportunities to network.

Most recently, I attended a kick-off meeting for a new committee being formed to examine the Alternative Dispute Resolution. This is a group of industry representatives who deal with agreements between oil and gas partners, AEUB, National Energy Board, and representatives of senior oil and gas producers such as Imperial Oil.

It was the consensus of the attendees of the meeting that PJVA has changed the scope of the way business is conducted in the industry and has provided excellent model agreements that will minimize the potential for disputes between companies.

The past has been successful and, without a doubt, the future looks bright. The implementation of the new Joint Venture Certificate Program at Mount Royal College and the development of new task forces such as the Joint Venture Compensation committee and the Standard Terms and Conditions committee will continue to support the legacy of the Joint Venture industry.

I must salute the members of the current Board for all the hard work they have contributed over the last year. The tireless efforts they have put forward in providing great programs, fabulous communications such as JVViews and the website, plus fun social events has made the year a great success.

In closing, I would like to thank all of you for your support during the past year. I wish the new Board continued success in the upcoming year.
