A Note from the Editor

Steve Roberts - Director, Newsletter and Website

Following in the footsteps of past editors, most recently Randy Fryer, I am now charged with the task of ensuring our association newsletter - JVViews - continues to be a useful source of information for the membership of PJVA. The objective is not to provide vast detail on all PJVA activities. Rather it is one of many ways in which PJVA members can become engaged in their association and profession. I hope it will be informative and thought provoking, acting as a stepping stone to other means of engagement such as the Website (check out the discussion forum), networking events (see you on the 19th hole on May 30), Early Morning Discussions (for a good understanding of how things should be), Luncheons (just like Mom used to make) and all the other work going on inside PJVA.

As a result of the good work of past Editors, I have found little reason to implement drastic changes to the look or feel of JVViews. The intent is to continue having two publications per year. We may review the timing of these publications to avoid having to ask contributors to meet deadlines over Christmas or during summer holidays. I will continue to strive for the creation of a document that provides useful, relevant and interesting information to the membership. The structure attempts to address some of the strategic directions taken by PJVA by reporting back on the status of past and current initiatives as well as informing the membership of future undertakings (just like those regular updates from your boss that let you know what's going on "upstairs").

In this edition you will find:
  • A report from the President outlining his vision for PJVA under his leadership;
  • Updates on committee and task force work currently underway;
  • An update on the Mount Royal College Joint Venture Certificate Program;
  • An article from former PJVA President Ron Ramsay describing a different kind of Joint Venture;
  • Profiles of some of the people who make up PJVA; and
  • A recap of the networking events hosted by PJVA.
I hope you will find my inaugural attempt at JVViews to be useful and informative. I am always looking for volunteers to provide material and other assistance in the creation of this newsletter. Whether it's a written article, a suggestion of a topic, a reference to a potential contributor, or an idea for a reprint, your input is welcomed and encouraged. I can be reached at steve.roberts@encana.com. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Kati Murphy of Associations Plus, who put up with my random use of editorial license.
