Martin King was born and raised in Calgary, and graduated the University of Calgary with a Master's Degree in Economics. He has worked as an economist at the Bank of Canada in Ottawa, the National Energy Energy Board in Calgary, and is currently Vice-President, Institutional Research at First Energy Capital where he is responsible for the analysis, modelling, and price forecasts of the crude oil and natural gas market.
