June 2011 Investing Where the Puck Is Going Brad Gustafson, Gustafson McMillan Wealth Solutions This month Brad Gustafson from Gustafson McMillan Wealth Solutions gave a presentation on past, present and future trends of Global, Provincial and local levels. His main tool was demographics that he used to see what is going to be consumed in the future and why prices of other things reacted the way they did. Although he painted a bleak future for overall Canadian/North American consumption he felt there were still opportunities to grow your money. One country in particular he sees great potential in is China. Currently in the midst of changing from a strict Communist regime Brad sees small signs of capitalist tendencies in the increasing of salaries and consumption of the Chinese people. If only a small percentage of the large population start increasing consumption, China is set to be a much larger force in the global economy. Brad preaches "to embrace the new truths" of the future and with that your investing style must address the new truths. Things like Casino's, Liquor Restaurants and Health Care stocks to name a few will be at the forefront of the investing future. If you can figure out what the Boomers want to buy you can figure out where the stock market will be headed. Essentially you're going to where the puck is going not where it's already been. |
